Large retail chain hacked

The breach of a large retail company's credit and debit card database has caused some worry for its customers, the thefts affected about 23,000 Savings bank customers.
Some weren't lucky enough to dodge the bullet a third-year electrical engineering student was among the victims. He found a suspicious $2,202.82 charge on his credit card account from a purchase made at a New York City cigar shop.

A large NH Hospital isn't the only company that has experienced problems this year with private information ending up in the wrong hands. More than 40 other companies - including another Hospital in Manchester - have reported potential leaks in computerized information to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection & Antitrust Bureau since a state law requiring notification went into effect in January.

The U.S. FBI reports that online crime is at an all time high.

Though the total numbers of complaints were down slightly (0.3%) the total amount of money lost has increased by 25%. The raw numbers are staggering, over 98,000 cases of reported fraud that led to financial loss. The total amount of money reported loss was over $239 million, the median dollar loss per complaint was $680. Email messages are how 73% of the cases of fraud began, 34% started at a website.
